Did not know that! Was it based on Robot Wars? I have watched that show as a kid, it was awesome ! 
Does the map still exist somewhere? Would be fun to try it !

Yes, it was.
Map is sadly lost to time, there is still a slim chance someone somewhere has a copy, but it's lost media as of now.
